Hey all - I finally ordered a Smokenator and the necessary accessories as a Christmas present to myself (I was good this year), and I am way psyched to begin my introduction to low and slow cooking!!!!
I already have a question, even though my Smokenator is still winging its way out to me from CA. I live in New England, where it has been frigid and snowy for weeks on end. How long will I have to wait until I can fire this baby up? Does the air temperature matter as much as the wind?
Thanks in advance for your reply, and Happy New Year to all.
Cheers, Chris

Hi
I live in 'Old England' - we're under 4 inches of snow and a temperature of 28/30F.
I gave the smokenator its first try on a rack of baby backs yesterday - Perfect! It held 225 for 3 1/2 hours, no trouble.
(I started my fire in the chimney with the lid on the kettle to melt the ice off it!)

I, too, got a Smokenator for Christmas (thank you Amy :-). I've done a number of Turkeys and been grilling for years in my 22" Weber Kettle. I tried a Turkey and last weekend a Pork Loin. It's been unseasonable cold in Maryland (around 20 degrees when I was grilling) but that hasn't stopped me before. Although the dome temperature was between 230 and 250 degrees, the meat never got above 125 degrees. I ended up cooking it in the oven to be sure it was done. The results were delicious both times, but I think I'm missing something. Anybody have some guidance on how to be sure the meat is done?

Thanks to pete from the UK and to Ed for the guidance and encouragement!
Unfortunately this weekend is booked for me, so I'll be breaking in my Smokenator next weekend while watching playoff football. I'll pray to the weather gods for no wind and maganeable temps.
Thanks again, guys.
