Anyone ever smoke oysters? How long, what temp, etc???

I grill/smoke oysters every year when I go out west the simple way. I have the grill on medium low heat with hickory chunks smoking. I lay the un-shucked oysters on the grill top so the nectar stays in the shell and close the lid. When the shells open........they are done. Some folks around here will dribble hot sauce on them, myself, I like to eat them straight out of the shell. Good stuff. My mouth is watering now. I have been told not to buy an oyster if the shell is already open, because these are already dead. gary
