Just received my silver kettle grill. In the process of assembly.Smokenator is on order. The forum talks about a top, and a bottom vent. I have a round vent on the top, and three sloted vents on the botton.I guess that the sloted vents are to get rid of the ashes. Are these three sloted vents also the heat control vents on the bottom? I received no assembly instructions with the grill. Had to call the dealer for help. Sorry for such a basic question.

Rodbear,
Both the vents on the top and the bottom are used for temperature control. The bottom vents control the amount of air that enters into the cooker, and the top vents control the amount of air that exits the cooker. Because of the demand of oxygen that the burning coals produces, your top and bottom vents will control the airflow through the cooker. The larger the openings = more airflow = hotter burn, smaller openings = less airflow = cooler burn.
The smokenator comes with instructions that will also do a good job of explaining the airflow through the vents for you. Be prepared though, it takes practice and experience to nail this down. I suggest that you do some practice runs without any food before you cook with it to try and maintain the temperatures you'll want.
It just so happens that the bottom vents make it very convenient to remove the ashes from the cooker as well.
