Thanks jsperk! I am on 3 hours (4-7pm). I guess i am looking into about 9pm done time. I guess it is hard to smoke when you work during the week... I am using Sugar Maple wood, with a bit of Cherry mixture. Did not notice i ran out of maple...

They came out great. Maybe not perfect, this was my first try. The temp kept about 230 most of the time. Now, it did spike a bit for a while, not sure why, but i closed off the vents and it seemed to settle down. Also, it did go down to about 200 at one point and just managed the vents. Here is a pic, sorry i was not to prooud, so only took one pic, but you will see a couple grill/char marks. I ended up putting them into my Summit Weber for a quick char, it took about 4 hours on the Weber. It was getting dark and late, only reason i put on the grill for the char; i wanted to do the 1hour with no water to give it the dry tops per say. keep the juices in. Can't complain 4 first time. I will not attempt again during week, well at least do it when i have time like on a weekend or a day off. Attachments:

I just got the Smokenator for an early Fathers' Day Present and am already confused. I received a set of printed instructions (5 1/2 x 8 1/2). I also received a different set of other instructions entitled Smokenator 1000 Quick Start Guide (8 1/2 x 11) and as I read the printed instructions, it seems to say I really should use the Minion Method and ignore the other instructions.. Can someone make this easier and clearer?

Can someone make this easier and clearer? well, first question would be 'are you familiar with the minion method?" assuming the answer is no, the basic idea is to use un-lit coals at the bottom of your pile & use pre-let coals at the top. You'll have more un-lit than lit. As they burn, they will get the un-lit coals going. It helps to keep the temp down & keep your burn times longer. It's been a while since I've looked at the written instructions, but I remember that the first time I used the smokenator I loaded it up until it was completely full with coals (all un-lit) then counted them as I took them out. I put probably 3/4 of them back in, then lit the rest & added them when they were ready I don't think using the minion method will affect any of the directions other than how many lit/unlit coals you add. Everything else (vent positions, etc) will be the same.
