I am planning on smoking a butt this weekend, my first. It is 6 lbs., so I assume it will take 10-12 hours. How frequently should I add briquettes and how many do I add at a time. The plan is to use regular Kingsford. Any other tips would be appreciated.

Buzzme, Replenish the baffle with unlit coals at about 4.5 hours. Fill the baffle through the holes. You will have to do this every 4.5 hours. See the comments I made in the post above about smoking a pork butt.

my experience is 10 coals per hour starting after the 3d hour. I followed the directions given in the manual and most of my coals were kaput and the temp dropped after 4 hours. I cooked at 235 dome too!
