New to the forum and I'm waiting for my smokenator to arrive. I have used wood chips wrapped in foil on coals in the past, can chips be used instead of chunks?
Second question, has anyone used smoke pellets in foil or in a cast iron pot with the smokenator?
Any input would be appreciated

because chips are so much smaller than the chunks, you're going to have a lot more surface area in chips than you would with an equal weight of chunks. Because of that, they're going to burn up much quicker.
In my experience, chips give you a more intense smoke flavor, bordering on over-smoking if you use a lot, and they burn up much quicker. Last time I did a pork butt in the smokenator, I used 2 chunks of hickory (approx 2" x 2"). One was buried in the unlit coals, & one on top of the lit coals. There was more than enough smoke flavor for me.
If you're going to use chips, I'd soak them really really well, & definitely put them in foil - without that, they're going to start on fire & burn up quickly..

Chunks are always preferable to chips. A couple of chunks will last through the 1st water check every hour. Probably add a couple of chunks for the 1st 4 hrs on ribs, 6-8hrs on brisket and shoulder. It depends on how much smoke you want.
