Just received a Smokenator for Christmas and plan on breaking it in this weekend. Wondering if the thermometer in my Performer grill is ok, or should I get one to put in the lid vents?

It should be okay. I'd check it in boiling water to make sure it accurate. Should read 212 degrees.

also, keep in mind that you're measuring the dome temp with that one. If you read through old posts here, I think you'll see that most people are having better luck measuring temp at the grate rather than at the dome.
