I was out shopping for pork butts yesterday and I can't believe the fluctuation in the price per pound for a pork butt. It ranged from .99 cents a pound to $3.49 a pound.
is this normal to see quite a price range for the same piece of meat?
Thanks, Jim

I pretty much won't buy it if it goes over $2. In the height of the swine flu, I was paying $.79. keytohwy

Thanks, Jim * Is the meat local? regional? even from the same state or country? * Has it been frozen for an extended time, or at all? * Does it come from eco-pigs? Ones fed with meat powder? Antibiotics? Gene manipulated ones? * How old is it? Has it been repacked? * Has it been stored in vacuum package or let to vent a little? * Has the animals been traumatized while transported or put down at the farm (adrenaline makes meat everything but tender)? * and so on ... and on and on.

The best price for Boston butts around here is at Sams club. I think it was around $1.79 lb, but not sure. Every grocery store sells picnics for around 89 cents/lb.
