I haven't figured out a way to post more than one picture at a time, so I'll have to reply to my own post a couple times here. Anyhow, this is the probe part of my thermometer. I know it looks like the end of it is touching the hovergrill, but it isn't... Attachments:

This is a picture of the cord coming out of the grill. It's kind of a flat cord and I have no trouble maintaining a tight seal when I use it like this. It almost seems like it makes the seal a little tighter being squished in there like that. Attachments:

Here's what the probe connects to. You can see that my smokenator is running a little hot right now (shame on me!). I love this thing because the one probe gives me the internal temp of whatever it's stuck into, and the other end of the probe gives me the ambient temp, so I know what the temperature is right at the level where the food is being cooked. I got it at Sur-La-Table for $30. If you search "thermometer" on their website it's easy to find. Attachments:

Fantastic! So here's another question at what point do you insert the thermometer into the food? Do you just do that when it's raw on the grill so that you get a solid baseline temp and then watch it climb throughout the cook? By the way I took your advise and bought the 2600 and can't wait do my first test run (Looks like I will need 20 coals to start it instead of the 12 for the 1000 model)....We've got tons of rain coming this weekend so I'm likely not going to get to do my first trial run...but I'm chomping at the bit to so maybe next weekend....By the way thanks for the pics! I went ahead and bought the Taylor thermometer that comes with the Smokenator. I have a dome thermometer on my Onetouch but it can't hurt to check it see if it's kicking out accurate temps durning the test run. Probably won't need either once I buy the one that you've posted....Thanks again, you have been a HUGE help to a rookie!!

Yeah, I put the thermometer in the meat right when I put it on the grill and watch the temp rise. Also, I've used mine in the rain, it kind of keeps the temperature low to have the rain hitting the outside of the dome....unless it's just a downpour, that wouldn't be fun.
