Made two dry runs and still having problems with the coals not lasting long enough. Running at 240 degrees, using clips, bottom full open and top about 1/16". After two and a half hours, temp starts to drop and more coals need to be added. Should the 12 hot coals be mixed thoroughly with the unlit ones?

Are your temps at the dome or grill? You shouldn't need to mix them, but you do need to knock the ash off of them every hour or so. What brand of coals are you using?

I'm using Kingsford and I've been following your instructions to the letter. Is it a problem to add some coals each time I top off the water? Temperature is 240 degrees at the dome.

That shouldn't be a problem. They should be added unlit. Try running without the binder clips. Only use them if you can't keep the temps below 250 at the dome and you can't control the temps by regulating the vent settings.
