I recently purchased the Smokenator as well as an IQue 110 hoping to be able to use them together. Has anyone tried these two together for a nice long smoke? What are your thoughts and/or challenges?

No, but I'm hoping someone will. Another guy posted about trying it with a PartyQ but I don't know if he has actually got around to doing it.

Anyways, I just finished setting up the two together. I'm in my first hour of smoking a 3.5 lb pork butt and so far so good. It's holding temp without me needing to play with the vents regardless of the breeze. I was a bit concerned about the excess condensation from the water pan getting into the ique's air hose but realized you caneasily detach the hose from the grill attachment to empty it out if it does fill up.

Worked like a charm. You'll get a bit of a condensation leak out from the bottom where the bottom vent rotator is but not enough to fill up the drip pan throughout a 6 hour smoke.
I foiled up the shoulder halfway through and didn't refill the water pan after that point since I added some moisture in the foil. I wish I could post pictures since it turned out very moist, juicy and had a perfect smoke ring.
The Smokenator and the Ique 110 work great together!

How did it do with fuel consumption? Did you have to add quite a bit more fuel for the 6 hour burn? How did you run the top vent? Was it simply wide open? How easy was it to install and do you install it under the intake under the smokenator?

Thanks for the review. I have been looking at either one of those or the party Q for my smokenator. I got up at 3:30 this morning to put a brisket on for late this evening, I got a few more hours or sleep after I got it dialed in but one of those would have given me a better piece of mind that its staying on temp

ksu1971: I added much less fuel compared to the time I did not run the smokenator with the Ique 110. I added about 7 more coals about 4 hours in since I noticed the temp dropping and that was it. I had the top vent opened just enough to fit the temp cables through without pinching them since my lid leaks quite a bit but otherwise I would open it about 1/4". As far as installation goes, it was very very simple. I foiled up the charcoal grate with heavy duty foil exposing just enough grate for the smokenator portion. The intake would be situated on the cool side of the grill so furthest away from the smokenator and under the foiled portion. The temp probe would then clamp to the handle of the cooking grate also on the opposite side of the smokenator.

chuck1221: I haven't heard of the party Q but the Ique worked great for myself since it dropped out of temp just once approximately four hours into the smoke. During my first run with the smokenator itself, I was adding a couple coals an hour since I did not really have a way to accurately monitor the temp. The Ique comes with a temp cable which keeps the grill at your set point plus/minus 10 degrees F however from what I've heard from others who had secondary temp probes it only fell about five degrees away. In other words you would definately be able to set it and forget it and sleep much more than without it.

PartyQ works great. I highly recommend it. Did a pork should for 16 hours with very little temp variation
