I am looking to purchase a Weber Kettle so I can get a Smokenator.
I actually called Weber today regarding the leaky kettle issue since I have been reading so much about it on these forums and the internet. The Weber customer service person told me that the issue has since been corrected on their kettles.
Not sure if anyone else has confirmed this. Just wanted to get this out there. Thanks

I don't know anything about Weber correcting an issue, but I've just never had a problem with it in general, even though my lid doesn't sit perfectly. Probably a lid wildly loose would be a problem, but I just don't believe that little things like a tiny gap where a temperature probe wire goes under the lid really upsets things that much (I took a hammer and dinged the rim of my kettle so there'd be a little place for the temperature probe wire to go through, though). Perhaps a somewhat leaky lid just means the bottom vents should be closed more? I'd experiment with it if looseness seems like a problem in a specific case, but in general I don't think one should should assume a Weber kettle will have leak problems. Other people are free to weigh in if I'm wrong. There is another thread on the forum about correcting leaky lids, and it has a lot of posts: smokenatorforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=issues&action=display&thread=9
