I just bought a Maverick ET-732 for use with my weber/smokenator, but I was just about to drill through the dome to insert the probe when it occurred to me: once I've mounted the probe on its bracket, how do I raise and lower the lid to tend to the coals and food without ripping the probe out of its bracket, or worse, upend the food surface grill?

If you are going to drill it, do it at the grill level. The temps will be a little lower there, but you'll know the temp the meat is cooking at.

Thanks but mmy question is: how do I raise the lid? The probe fits in a bracket mounted on the grill. When I raise the lid won't it rip the probe off its mooring?
