Hello. First time poster. This is a very informative site. I have been smoking for years on a Brinkman vertical gasser. Grilling on a Weber Smokey Joe. I think that's the name. Its about 16" across. Time to replace the smoker. And I want a bigger grill. I plan to get a Smokenator and Weber kettle. My decision is Gold or Silver? $50 seems like a lot for an ash can.

The ash can has kept our dog from eating the ashes. Its also made clean up a little easier than the silver as I tend not to spill it. Not sure its worth the $50.

I have had both and really prefer the Gold. I can go about three grilling sessions before dumping the ashes and they are very contained in the can. The Gold can is much heavier than the Silver catch pan. If you are going to do any long and slow smokes with the SN I would tend to go with the Gold.

I bought the Gold a few days ago. I knew I wanted the hinged grate. That would have been $25 or so. This narrowed the price difference and made the decision easier. Smokenator is in the mail.

Forgot about that. Makes filling the Smokenator so much easier.

Yep the hinged grate makes a big difference along with the heavier ash catcher.
