I just ordered a Party Q for my Weber Kettle and Smokenator. I plan on using a Maverick E733 thermometer with my setup and wanted to drill two holes through the side of the kettle and use the idea on this site of using lamp repair nipples to run the probes and wires through. My question is, will these added openings still allow the Party Q to operate correctly, or will the added ventilation cause problems? I'm a newbie and appreciate any advice, thanks.

This is a late response, so you probably already know the answer to your question by now, but in case anybody else has a similar issue... Drilling a small hole (or 2) in the side of your Weber kettle will not effect anything at all. I have 2 quarter inch (1/4") holes in mine for the probes from my Maverick to go thru, one about an inch above the top grate, the other about an inch above the lower grate. I can fit 2 probes through a single hole and even the empty hole does not experience any smoke or heat loss.

Just wondering. If you drill the kettle for the BBQ Guru, where do you locate the Smokenator? It would seem if the Smokenator is directly above the Guru intake, ashes would be blown around when the coals were stirred. Opposite side of the grill doesn't seem right either. I don't want to drill in the wrong place
