Have not wanted to bring this up until I have tested this source for a few of years. But these wood chunks provide an excellent burn time with the SN. They are about 3x3x1 and provide about a one hour burn in the SN. I have tested the Apple, Cherry, Hickory, Maple and Oak and they all work very well. The cherry was especially good with turkey and poultry. I have bought in the bulk boxes as that is cheapest way to go. Much cheaper to get what you need. In the time I have used these I have gone through one box of apple and reordered and now need to reorder oak and hickory. There is absolutely no bark or small pieces in the box or bag. This is high quality chunk wood from a Maine distributer. The price is very reasonable compared to what you get online from Weber or Amazon. NC Thanks for the info; I've been looking at their Website. I'm in Sacramento & just found a place called BBQ Pro in nearby Fair Oaks. I pickup some nice chunks of white oak and plum. I'll try the out oak tomorrow. What I bought doesn't look as nice as the Maine Grilling Woods sound, but he's local and I like to support local when I can. www.bbqproonline.com/wc

Hi WC that is a nice site. I would go with the red oak for brisket, the cherry for any poultry. Pecan and cherry for pork unless you can find some apple them use the apple. It's tough finding a good source for quality wood chunks and like you I prefer to buy local, but can't find the size I need for the SN and have found them at the Maine Grilling Woods. I found them a few years ago when I lived in Boston and smoked using a Silver with the baskets. With the SN they are even more controlled lasting about an hour.
I'm doing a pork butt on Sunday and will be using a little bit of hickory, apple and a little bit of maple.
Take care and have fun

I just started to buy my wood chunks at a local shop called Strodes BBQ & Deli. They sell a brand called SmokinLicious. At Strodes, the different wood types come in bags, but the web site shows boxes can be ordered as well. Each chunk is 2" x 2" x 3" approximately. Some will fit in the round Smokenator holes, and some are just a bit too big. The bigger ones I add through the water pan hole at the beginning and I save the smaller ones to add later in the cook. I have never compared pricing as I have no other source at the moment, so I do not know if these are reasonable in price or not. Just thought I would add another option into the mix. Thanks for the pics, nc. Those look like some nice chunks. I can't wait to order a box when I'm done with this bag of chips.

Jay just ordered a full box of cherry chunks. This now fills out my 5 types of woods I use in boxes. Since you don't smoke as much as I do you might want to by a few of the bags of types of chunks to experiment with. The 5 types I use are apple, cherry, hickory, maple and oak. In any one smoke I may use 2 or 3 of them.

Hey Tom, I haven't posted in a while. But just wanted to let you know I tried some of the applewood chunks from Maine Grilling Woods and I like them a lot. I just finished the first small bag and just ordered a whole box.
Can't wait!

Good to hear from you Jay. Glad you like the chunks. I am about ready to order an other box myself. Dang I go through them fast when I'm smoking my bacon and hams, let alone butts and ribs.
