As usual did my smoked Thanksgiving turkey. This year it was a 14.6lb bird. Had some difficulties as the temp was 32 degrees when I put it on at 1pm. Never got above 35. I smoked it with cherry wood which is my favorite for turkey and provides a nice sweet flavor. I took it off after 4 hours and finished in the oven it had plenty of smoke. Final temp was 165 and rested it for a while ate dinner about 7. Great day with friends and family as we sat around watching football and getting reacquainted with each other. The SN with vents full open ran about 280 less than the 325 I like for turkey as it does take quite a while to cook. I also had to replace the coals after 21/2 hours. I don't have a problem doing ribs, brisket or butts in the winter as I only need 225-250.. Here is the pic of the finished bird Hope all had a happy and nice weekend!! Tom

Going to do one for Christmas a little over 16lbs. The temps are going to be close to 50 and sunny far different than Thanksgiving.

Good luck on your cook! Looking forward to seeing pics again. I had taken a small hiatus from grilling/bbqing because of work, but now I'm trying to plan on what I should make now that work is a little bit more stable. I might try turkey!
