Hi there,
Just got my SN and ET732 and put them to go use yesterday. I know rule of thumb is to do a dry run, but there's no fun in that. Besides, I had a couple small pork butts (5 pounds together). I didn't have too much trouble keeping things on track, and the SN seems user friendly as advertised. It took pretty close to 12 hours to reach 198, but no rush as it was a test run. I had a little bit of trouble keeping the temps in line when reloading coals, but I think it will be better if I add 8-10 lit coals as opposed to unlit. All in all, a great experience.
A couple things:
1) Wow. Just wow. Best pulled pork ever. All restaurant PP sands are now officially ruined for me.
2) I pulled the ET732 back out to smoke some ribs today, and BOTH probes are now showing incorrect temps. Way off (208 and 95, in my 64 degree house). I didn't drill the probe hole in the kettle until today, so I had the lid sitting on them during yesterdays smoke. I didn't submerge them or anything else they warn about in the instructions. They seemed to work fine yesterday, I checked them a couple times against a handheld and they were spot on, right to the end. Are the probes for these things that fragile?
Anyway, love the SN, got some ribs on now, just using a therm through the lid for now until I get some replacement probes.

Hi Steve,
Did you fully seat the plugs in the 732? I was surprised at how much pressure it took before mine snapped in the second time.

Thanks for the question. I thought I had, but just did it again to confirm. They're definitely seating all the way. Now I'm wondering if it's just the low reading's that are off. The good news is that I'm sure Amazon will take care of it, or worst case I can contact Maverick. I don't seem to find a lot of reports about the probes being super fragile, so I'm thinking I could just have been unlucky. Other good news is I'm finding the SN temps to be pretty stable (my performer lid doesn't leak much), so I should be able to get by with stuffing my therm through the lid vent while I wait on a replacement.

my general impression with the remote therms is that they seem less-delicate in use than they appear. I used/abused several in the past and never had a fail;ure. I test them (and my other therms) in boiling water.
I'm sure that repeated or tight crimping and/or a trip thru the dishwasher or submerged in water is gonna be a bad idea. But they seem tough enough if you're sensible with them. Some people pack the back side with sealer and put shrink tubing on them but I never have.

When I got my Maverick 732 the grill temp probe was bad off 15 degrees. Still haven't replaced it since I was so used to going by my dome temperature. Will try later this spring when winter disappears, to much snow and cold now. The e-mail for Maverick is help@maverickhousewares.com. The warranty for the 732 is 90 days and new probes cost $20 on there web site. maverickhousewares.com

Follow up on my ET-732 grill probe took just a couple of e-mails and they are sending me a new probe. Had to do it now or lose the warranty. My wife got me the 732 to replace my old 73 for Christmas. So Barlow if you need help just e-mail them seem to be nice people.

That's great to know. I actually just sent for a new unit from Amazon and they took care of it (new one is already here). But I'm glad to hear that Maverick are easy to work with and I'll keep their email handy for sure.
Thanks!
