I'm just starting out with the smokenator set up. Do we use a drip pan in the bottom when cooking on the food level grill??

I'm just starting out with the smokenator set up. Do we use a drip pan in the bottom when cooking on the food level grill?? I do. It will definitely save you clean up time. One thing that is a little different with the smokenator is that the heat source is beside the food. On some other types of smokers, the drippings hit the coals & cook off--because of this setup, the bottom of the grill doesn't really get hot enough to cook the stuff off & it creates a bit of a mess.

Agree with jerkylips and delapaco. I think Don says the coals will make enough ash to absorb the drippings, but a pan is better.
