Hello fellow bbq brethren, I'm new to this forum but not quite new to bbq. I have used both electric and propane to smoke. I also used my weber a few times with just a water pan. It's funny because I'm always trying to find a better way to do things. I was thinking how can I improve this weber and make it an awesome smoker... I know it's possible.... so the search was on to see if there was something existing to do the job... I ordered the smokenator after 2 days of searching other options and countless reviews.. I prolly sound like a bit compulsive to get the best deal possible.. I've learned if I do my homework and it still sucks then at least I did my best to not let that happen. So anyways.... Im Waiting for this new kettle attachment with my fingers crossed. I am looking forward to getting back to charcoal/wood smoking (I think it's the best flavor). I hope I'm able to make a worthwhile contribution to some of these forums. I look forward to reading the diffrent tricks and recipes in these forums.

Hi phill and welcome to the forum. Using the SN with a Weber is a great tool. It takes some getting used to as the Weber is not insulated so weather is always a factor. I always recommend that new SN users keep a note book on conditions, vent openings etc. I love the SN for smokes of 2hrs or more otherwise I use an old fashion Weber basket. You will need to stir the coals once an hour with the stirrer provided, add coals about every 4 hrs and sweep the ashes at that point. If it is gusty windy you may have to adjust the vents more often, but once you get used to the SN you can set the vents and keep the temp with in a 10-15 degree temp range. Some of the guys say they can set it and they will not have any variance.
For the SN I smoke everything. Bacon, hams, brisket, pork butts, whole turkey and just breasts, basically anything you can think of. I have found using a good digital thermometer like a Maverick ET-732 is very beneficial.
Happy holiday and happy smoking. Any questions please feel free to ask.
Tom
