That was a great looking web page, and an even better looking smoking job. I do have a question for you though. I really liked the clip you had on the remote probe. Did you make that yourself, or did it come with the Redi-Chek? If you did make it yourself, please let me know how you did it. Thanks!

I then came up with a logo and added the rest. Just having some fun. The butt came out perfect! The clip comes with the Redi-Chek. I cannot speak highly enough about this thermometer. In my experience, there is a huge difference in the dome vs grill temps. Once I started smoking based on the grill temp using the Redi-Chek, everything has come out great and as expected. Whether you go with this or another option, you MUST KNOW the temp at the grill!

Thank you for such a well documented account of your first Pork Butt. Awesome Job on all accounts! As a newbie to this world of smoke ,you provided me some great ideas and motivation for trying my first PB as well. Thanks again.

Great job on the pork butt, thanks for the Info. Can the Maverick ET-73 be purchased locally or only online? Also by running the Temp. cord under the dome do you get a lot of air intake that causes higher Temps? Thanks for any advice.

I have seen the Maverick brand locally at a Bed, Bath, and Beyond but not this model. I ordered from Amazon. Find one, get one! I have no issues running the cord under the dome. Some say this can be a problem and run them through the top vent. It may allow a bit more air flow but on MY grill its not a factor.

Got mine with free shipping on Amazon. I found that running the wire out under the lid makes it slightly harder to regulate temps, but I wouldn't call it much of a problem either. I know what the temperature at my grate is compared to the dome. I'm going to buy a decent thermo for the dome, to replace the cheapie I put in there. At that point I may not use the Maverick at all. I'm tired of futzing with the wires and stuff. But then, I'm a crabby middle aged guy.........
