Before I got the Weber and Smokenator, I was looking at the usual Brinkman/Chargriller smoker-side fire box setups. When looking at those units, I came across several mods that people have made on those models to make them better smokers.
One of the mods was that they used some 3" aluminum dryer hose to extend the chimney (inside the smoker) so that the inlet of the chimney was all the way down at the cooking grate level. By lower the inlet of the chimney, it makes for a more even temperature inside the smoker.
I am wondering if something like this would work in a Weber to even out the temperature differential between the top of the lid and at the cooking grate.
Has anyone ever tried such a thing? I googled it, but I haven't seen many homebrew mods for the Weber grilles......which is surprising considering how long these grilles have been on the market!

Haven't heard of it yet. If you try it, let us know how it goes.
